Appearance: The outer layers (sapwood) are light brown and the inner layers (heartwood) dark yellowish brown, being observed between both layers an abrupt contrast. It presents straight and regular lines of dark color.
Weight: Grain is straight. Medium texture. without distinctive odor. The veined is radial.

Working properties: The wood is easy to work with and offers polished finishes. The drying is moderately difficult and presents some defects such as kinks. It is reported as highly durable. The heartwood is difficult to preserve, but the sapwood presents good absorption and penetration.
Uses: Wood is used for interior and general construction, carpentry and turnery, furniture, floors, fences, railway sleepers and tool handles.
